Solution Architecture
Customers do not need to understand IoT architecture in detail. They need specific functionalities, are concerned about security, reliability, and availability, and want to see scalability in the roadmap. Interoperability with other systems, expected performance, and industry compliance are also crucial. Ultimately, customers judge the solution by its value and usability. According to common understanding, a good IoT architecture is robust, scalable, secure, and efficient, facilitating seamless communication and data management between IoT devices and applications.
At Innotrain, we believe that a good IoT architecture should be built top-down, starting from customer business value down to the perception level of sensor networks. Customer requirements, technical specifications, and architecture descriptions result from customer insights, achieved through customizable methods such as facilitated workshops with customer experts, industry sensing, and deep knowledge and experience in the field.
IoT architecture typically consists of several layers:
- Perception Layer: Includes sensors, actuators, and edge devices that collect data, perform actions, and process information.
- Network Layer: Comprises gateways and communication protocols for data transmission.
Cloud Layer: Offers various IoT platforms that receive, process, forward, store data, and manage devices. - Application Layer: Integrates data analytics tools, customer applications, and APIs, providing the closest interaction with customers.

In Innotrain we develop and evolve IoT architecture for all levels. Sensor technology, edge compution, connectivity, cloud solutions evolve and provide input and opportunities for continuous improvements. However, the real progress and success we measure by increased customer value.

“Effective IoT solution architecture should be developed top-down, starting from customer business goals. Throughout the development of an IoT solution, the focus must remain on how the customers will use it and how it will benefit them. There is a growing need to shift the focus of IoT architecture from a technology and provider-centric approach to a customer-oriented one.”
